ABOUT THE EDISON CENTER
Built in the 1800's, the Edison Center has been home to many successful businesses.
The world's first commercially successful electric street railway began right here in Appleton, in this very building.
The Appleton Electric Street Railway Company housed their railcars in the building at night from 1886-1930.
The building was referred to as the "Streetcar Barn and driven by Van Depoele direct current motors which received power from a hydroelectric generator through two trolley wires. In 1930, the expanded electric street railway system serving the cities of Appleton, Neenah, Menasha and Kaukauna was retired when bus service was begun to better serve the transportation needs of these communities. A video can be seen here of the last electric street car run in Appleton.

Plans of an unknown brewery from 1890 were discovered that resided in the building.

The building was later home to the Wisconsin Electric Power Company where plans were drafted for power lines throughout Wisconsin.
In 1985 the building was renovated into versatile office, studio and flex space suites for commercial business use by real estate broker and developer, Alan Ament.
Every suite is unique, just like your business and the building offers an original industrial character and design that is hard to find anywhere else. Centrally located in the growing downtown Appleton Flats, the Edison Center is a great location for your business.
